The No. 7 Mynderse Blue Devils came up short in their pursuit of a sectional title Friday evening, falling to the top-seeded Le Roy Oatkan Knights, 58-50, in the Class B1 championship at the Blue Cross Arena.
Mynderse led for most of the contest and held a 43-40 advantage entering the fourth quarter, but Le Roy outscored the Blue Devils 18-7 in the final eight minutes to secure its first sectional title since 2003 and just the second in program history.
The Blue Devils started strong, taking a 12-10 lead after the first quarter. Mynderse built momentum in the second, carrying a 33-25 advantage into halftime before holding a three-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Le Roy outscored Mynderse 33-17 in the second half to complete the comeback.
Braeden Cimineri led the way offensively for Mynderse, finishing with 20 points, but was limited to just two in the second half. Elijah Doell added 15 points for the Blue Devils, knocking down five three-pointers, while Derek Mercedes Rivera contributed six points and Nick Mansell chipped in four.
Aidan Weaver scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Oatkan Knights. Matthew Hockey added 12 points and Jagger Smith poured in 10.
Mynderse finished the season at 10-14, falling one game short of its 11th sectional title in program history. Meanwhile, Le Roy improved to 16-7 and will face Bishop Kearney/Chesterton in the Class B Far West Regional on Monday night.
