FedEx to shutter Upstate NY hubs

FedEx will close several upstate New York facilities in June as it overhauls its delivery network, according to Spectrum News 1. The company says the move will streamline pickups and drop-offs with one-van, one-neighborhood coverage.

Locations in Syracuse, Elmira, Binghamton/Kirkwood, Ithaca and Utica will shut down as part of FedEx’s multi-year “Network 2.0” plan. FedEx says the changes will boost speed, visibility and overall service. The company reports it has already optimized more than 350 stations across the U.S. and Canada.

Some local businesses rely on FedEx Express for early deliveries that help them stock shelves faster. A Syracuse supply chain expert says freight companies face intense pressure to meet same-day expectations, and he believes consolidation could ultimately help customers.
