Shoppers rushed out and patrol cars surrounded the building after someone targeted the Erwin Walmart with a fake emergency call, according to WENY. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the store faced a swatting incident Saturday night.
Deputies evacuated customers and employees while officers searched the property. Sheriff Jim Allard said investigators found no real threat. Staff returned inside once deputies secured the scene.
Swatting involves making a false report to trigger a heavy police response. Authorities have not announced any arrests tied to the incident.
