Conservative political club sparks debate at CNY schools

A conservative student club is spreading across Central New York high schools — and so is the controversy, according to WSTM.

Club America, affiliated with Turning Point USA, has launched chapters in Baldwinsville, Cicero-North Syracuse, Central Square, and Fulton, with plans for West Genesee. Supporters say students lead discussions on the Constitution and current events. Critics, including members of the CNY Solidarity Coalition, argue the group answers to its national parent and question whether partisan politics belong in public schools.

Some students also worry the club’s conservative messaging could alienate LGBTQ classmates. Club representatives insist participation stays voluntary and student-driven, and they say the goal centers on open dialogue, not division. Organizers on both sides expect the debate to continue.
