Bath man jailed on contempt charge

Bath police arrested a 36-year-old man after investigators said he violated an order of protection and tried to influence a witness in an active felony case.

Damian C. Vanvleck, of Bath, was taken into custody at about 2:43 p.m. Feb. 25 on Liberty Street without incident, according to the Village of Bath Police Department.

Police said officers were first dispatched at about 10:57 a.m. Feb. 20 to a West Steuben Street residence for a reported order of protection violation.

Investigators determined Vanvleck had recently been granted pre-trial release from the Steuben County Jail in connection with an ongoing criminal case in which he faces felony robbery charges.

Police said Vanvleck made contact with the protected party in violation of a full stay-away order of protection and attempted to influence the victim to recant their testimony against him.

Authorities charged Vanvleck with criminal contempt in the second degree and tampering with a witness in the fourth degree, both Class A misdemeanors.

He was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment, where he remains held with the opportunity for bail.
