Wayne County sets safe boating classes

Anyone planning to operate a boat or Jet Ski this summer will need to complete a state safety course — and Wayne County deputies are offering four chances to do it.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Recreation Safety Division will host the New York State Safe Boating Course on four Saturdays in March and April in Lyons and Ontario.

State law requires the course for anyone operating a personal watercraft, such as a Jet Ski or Wave Runner, and for anyone operating any power-driven vessel.

Participants must be at least 10 years old at the time of the class.

The full-day classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates:

• March 21 at the Wayne County EMO, Room 2011, 7376 Route 31, Lyons.
• March 28 at the Wayne County Fire Training Building, 1525 Nye Road, Lyons.
• April 4 at Ontario Recreation, Casey Park, 6551 Knickerbocker Road, Ontario.
• April 11 at the Wayne County EMO, Room 2011, 7376 Route 31, Lyons.

Attendees must bring a pen and a lunch.

Registration is available through the state’s online boating course system.
