More than 300 animals now fill the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY shelter after a massive seizure last week, according to the organization. Humane law enforcement officers removed five dogs, five snakes, six rabbits, about 160 rats, 150 mice, and 32 hamsters on Friday.
The sudden surge has stretched staff and space. The SPCA is asking local and state shelters to take some animals and urging the public to donate towels, small blankets, and empty pasta or cereal boxes. Donors can drop items at the bottle and can shed or the front door at 41 York St.
Staff will limit hours while they care for the animals. The shelter will open 1–2 p.m. Thursday and Sunday, and 1–3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
