Solar portfolio powers farms, communities

Sheep now graze beneath rows of solar panels in parts of New York and Vermont, as two renewable energy companies wrap up a 13 megawatt agrivoltaic community solar portfolio.

GreenSpark Solar and Encore Renewable Energy announced they have completed three projects totaling 13 MW DC across the two states. The milestone marks Encore’s first completed solar project in New York and GreenSpark Solar’s first completed projects in Vermont.

The portfolio includes Constable Solar in Constable, New York; Boardman Hill Solar in West Rutland, Vermont; and Danyow Solar in Sheldon, Vermont.

Constable Solar, a 3.8 MW DC project, reached completion in the fourth quarter of 2025. Boardman Hill Solar, a 2.9 MW DC project, also wrapped up in the fourth quarter of 2025. Danyow Solar, the largest at 6.3 MW DC, reached completion in the first quarter of 2026.

Together, the projects deliver locally generated solar energy while preserving agricultural land through dual-use design.

Encore, based in Burlington, Vermont, developed and designed the projects before handing them off to GreenSpark Solar as the engineering, procurement, and construction partner. GreenSpark, headquartered in Rochester, supported procurement and delivered turnkey EPC execution. Encore will own the projects long term.

“This portfolio reflects what’s possible when two mission-driven teams align around their core strengths,” said Tony D’Ambra, Executive Director of EPC at GreenSpark Solar. “Encore brings deep expertise in thoughtful site development and community engagement. Our team focuses on disciplined execution, quality construction, and collaborative problem-solving in the field. From navigating complex site conditions to implementing innovative equipment solutions, this partnership has been defined by trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to building projects the right way.”

Blake Sturcke, CEO of Encore Renewable Energy, said strong partnerships remain key to delivering renewable energy projects.

“Delivering affordable, responsible renewable energy projects requires strong partnerships at every step of the development process,” Sturcke said. “At Encore, we strive to work with values-aligned partners, and GreenSpark has proven its expertise throughout the construction of these projects, which are now offering cost savings and reliable clean energy to ratepayers across Vermont and New York.”

Constable Solar operates under New York’s NY-Sun Initiative and VDER program. NYSEG compensates the project for the electricity it produces.

The site sits on land owned by the Sirois siblings. The former hay field now operates as an agrivoltaic site, where sheep graze to manage vegetation and maintain agricultural productivity. Citrine Power LLC developed the project before Encore acquired it prior to construction.

In Vermont, the Boardman Hill project received its Certificate of Public Good from the Vermont Public Utility Commission in January 2023. The roughly 3 MW project won an award through Vermont’s competitive Standard Offer Program.

Developers built the hillside project with a tracker system and incorporated sheep grazing for vegetation management.

Danyow Solar introduced a new construction approach. GreenSpark installed a CPS/CHINT skidded-inverter solution, which allowed crews to deliver pre-assembled inverter equipment and crane it into place. The method reduced on-site assembly time and improved installation efficiency.

The Danyow project has received Permission to Operate, and phased production is underway. Teams are planning agrivoltaic components for the site.

Both companies say the partnership model, rooted in shared accountability and open communication, positions them for continued growth across the Northeast.

“This has been one of the most collaborative and solutions-oriented partnerships our team has experienced,” D’Ambra said. “When challenges arise, as they always do in construction, Encore approaches them with reason, clarity, and a shared sense of responsibility. That level of trust makes all the difference in delivering successful projects.”

Encore Renewable Energy operates as a Certified B Corporation and focuses on renewable energy development and long-term asset ownership. GreenSpark Solar specializes in community solar and commercial-scale distributed generation projects and recently ranked #1 community solar EPC in Solar Power World’s 2025 Top Solar Contractor List.

With 13 MW now complete, the companies say they will continue expanding clean energy access while supporting agricultural land use and community benefits.
