Longtime Ontario planning director to retire

After four decades shaping Ontario County’s growth, the man behind its planning office will step away this summer, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Tom Harvey, 67, will retire in July after leading the Ontario County Planning Department since 2013. The Gorham resident joined county government in 1985 and spent nearly his entire career guiding development and environmental efforts.

County leaders are already lining up his replacement. The Ontario County Board of Supervisors approved a six-member search committee Thursday. County Administrator Chris DeBolt will chair the panel, joined by Lindsey Burgess, Ryan Davis, Christopher Day, Nathan Thomas and Kristine Singer.

The group will review applications, interview candidates and recommend a successor to the Planning & Environmental Quality Committee.
