A traffic stop in Penn Yan led to the arrest of a Virginia man on an active warrant Friday night.
Deputies arrested Alexei V. Plavan, 68, of Sterling, Virginia, at 8:40 p.m. Feb. 20 on Linden Street, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
Penn Yan Police Department officers stopped a vehicle Plavan was driving. During the stop, officers learned he had an active arrest warrant issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies then took Plavan into custody.
The warrant stems from a motor vehicle accident that happened in 2024 in the Town of Jerusalem.
Plavan faces charges of reckless driving, operating a vehicle without registration or while suspended, moving from a lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent, and failing to stop at a stop sign.
Deputies processed Plavan and held him at the Yates County Jail until his next CAP arraignment.
