A car smashed through a secured gate at a Nevada power substation before officers found the driver dead with weapons inside, according to WHAM. Authorities identified the 23-year-old as Dawson Maloney of Albany.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Maloney rammed the facility outside Boulder City, wore body armor, and held a shotgun. Investigators found more firearms, ammunition, and thermite devices in the car and at his motel.
Police say Maloney drove from New York in a rental car and sent messages referencing self-harm and terrorism. The department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are treating the case as terrorism-related. Officials say no ongoing threat exists.
