Ontario County residents will have exclusive access to the local DMV for the next week as New York rolls out a major technology upgrade.
The Ontario County Office of the Department of Motor Vehicles will serve county residents only through Friday, February 27, following a statewide system overhaul, according to a press release .
State officials recently completed the initial phase of a multi-year project to replace and modernize the DMV’s aging technology systems . During that first phase, the state migrated about 30 million records to the new system and moved the first portion of the upgrade online .
The Ontario County DMV offices reopened Wednesday, February 18, with support from New York State DMV leadership and in line with the state’s implementation timeline .
Because of the significant changes tied to the new software, the Canandaigua DMV will continue operating from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and limit service to Ontario County residents through February 27 .
Officials said they will post any updates on the County Clerk website and the Ontario County Clerk Facebook page .
“This statewide upgrade is a major undertaking, and while it is temporarily disrupting services, it ultimately moves us toward a more reliable and efficient DMV system,” County Clerk Jean Chrisman said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this transition.”
