Local leaders head to State of Union

Two Cayuga County officials will sit inside the U.S. Capitol next week as guests for President Donald Trump’s State of the Union, according to The Citizen. U.S. Rep. John Mannion invited Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens, while U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney chose Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby.

Mannion said he wants to spotlight central New York projects like Micron’s investment and Interstate 81, along with affordability and public safety. He also secured more than $2 million for Syracuse projects, including lead pipe replacement and a police mobile command unit.

Tenney praised Milby’s long law enforcement career and leadership roles, calling his invitation a show of support for police. Trump will deliver the address at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
