A loud bang shook homes in Southport before flames tore through a house Wednesday night, according to WENY.
Fire crews responded around 6:30 p.m. to a home on Southport Street and found smoke and flames pouring from a second-floor window. Southport Volunteer Fire Department officials said the house was occupied, but crews evacuated everyone safely. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion-like noise moments before the fire.
Multiple departments, including Pine City, Wellsburg, Elmira and West Elmira, worked for hours to control the blaze. Crews battled flames trapped between a tin roof and older asphalt shingles. Officials have not determined what caused the fire or the reported boom.
