Small towns across Tompkins County can now compete for $10,000 to spruce up public spaces, according to the Ithaca Times. CCE Tompkins County’s Community Beautification Program just opened applications for matching grants aimed at rural villages.
Communities can fund highly visible projects like plantings, murals, benches, signs and sculptures. The required match can include cash, supplies, contracted services or volunteer labor valued at $34.79 per hour.
Organizers say the grants help extend beautification efforts beyond Ithaca into smaller towns. Applications are due March 1, with awards announced in April. Projects must wrap up and submit final reports by Oct. 31.
