MADD pushes tougher DWI limits

New York now slaps drivers with up to 11 license points for a single DWI, but advocates say that’s not enough, according to News10NBC. The tougher DMV rules can trigger suspensions, yet Mothers Against Drunk Driving wants deeper changes.

MADD leaders say the state should lower the legal blood alcohol limit from 0.08 to 0.05. They argue stricter limits would prevent impaired driving before it starts, not just punish it after the fact.

Advocates also want stronger enforcement of ignition interlock rules. They say only about 25% of offenders required to install breathalyzers actually do, and some drivers bypass the devices. MADD believes tighter oversight and behavior-focused reforms would save more lives.
