Elections chief steps down in Cayuga

Cayuga County will soon have a new elections leader, according to The Citizen, as Democratic Commissioner Keith Batman steps down after just over a year on the job. His resignation takes effect Feb. 28.

Batman took the role in 2023 to finish Katie Lacey’s term but stayed longer to avoid two new commissioners starting at once. He also delayed leaving to oversee planning for a southern Cayuga sewer district vote and the start of petitioning season.

The Cayuga County Democratic Committee selected Sterling resident Ken Warner to replace him. The county Legislature will make the appointment official. Warner says he sees fair elections as essential to democracy.
