The $16 billion project would add a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River linking New York and New Jersey. A federal judge recently allowed funding to resume after the administration froze it, and an appeal could move forward soon. Work had paused, sidelining about 1,000 workers.
Trump denied reports that he demanded renaming Penn Station in exchange for funds. Democratic leaders in both states blasted his stance and vowed to keep fighting in court to secure full funding.
