City officials are warning residents and businesses about a scam targeting people who apply to Auburn’s Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
The City of Auburn said scammers have sent fraudulent invoices asking applicants to make payments by wire transfer for application reviews at Memorial City Hall, 24 South St.
Officials said the city does not request payments for these applications through wire transfer.
The scam appears to target people who submit materials to the Planning Board or Zoning Board of Appeals. The city called it a recurring issue and urged applicants to stay alert.
Anyone who questions the legitimacy of an invoice should call the Office of Planning at 315-255-4118 or the Office of Code Enforcement at 315-255-4111. Residents can also visit Memorial City Hall in person to verify a request.
More information about the Planning Board is available at auburnny.gov/planning-board. Details about the Zoning Board of Appeals appear at auburnny.gov/zoning-board-appeals.
City officials thanked the public for their cooperation.
