A head-on crash shut down both lanes of County Road 131 early Tuesday morning in the Town of Ovid. Deputies say a 24-year-old Watkins Glen man lost control on a curve and slammed into a minivan.
Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson said deputies responded around 6:47 a.m. to the area of County Road 131 and West Wycoff Road for a two-vehicle personal injury crash.
When deputies arrived, they found a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze blocking the northbound lane. A 2010 Toyota Sienna blocked the southbound lane.
Deputies identified the Cruze driver as Nathaniel B. Wickham, 24, of Watkins Glen. They identified the Sienna driver as Juan D. Lopez-Hernandez, 43, of Geneva.
Deputies said Wickham tried to navigate a slight right-hand turn when he lost control. His car slid into the southbound lane and struck the Sienna head-on.
Three passengers rode in the Sienna at the time of the crash. Deputies identified them as Antonio A. Aguilera, 52, of Geneva; Israel Zavala, 30, of Geneva; and Alfonso Mosqueda-Zavala, 30, of Geneva.
The crash injured everyone involved. Ambulance crews took the occupants of both vehicles to local hospitals for treatment.
Both vehicles suffered heavy damage. Tow trucks removed them from the scene.
The Ovid, Lodi, and Interlaken fire departments assisted at the scene. South Seneca Ambulance, Trumansburg Ambulance, and Bangs Ambulance also responded.
