Local leaders want Washington’s help to honor veterans in Romulus. The Seneca County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to ask U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney to secure federal funding for new memorial projects at the New York State Veterans Cemetery–Finger Lakes, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Supporters plan to build a memorial gate, entranceway, honor wall and obelisk at the 162-acre cemetery, located at the former Sampson Naval and Air Force base. Tenney recently pledged to advocate for federal dollars and asked local governments to pass resolutions backing the effort.
Officials haven’t set a funding target or timeline. The state took over the cemetery in 2023, making it New York’s first state veterans cemetery.
