Police in Palmyra have charged a juvenile offender following a child abuse investigation that began last fall.
The Palmyra Police Department reported that allegations surfaced on Sept. 19 during an ongoing investigation. Authorities conducted a forensic interview, during which the child disclosed years of sexual abuse.
Investigators allege the juvenile offender, identified as the victim’s older sibling, subjected the child to repeated sexual contact over approximately five years, from 2018 through March 2023.
Police arrested the juvenile on Feb. 11 at 4:33 p.m. Officers charged the youth with incest in the first degree, criminal sexual act in the first degree, course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree and sexual abuse in the first degree. All charges are felonies.
Officers processed the juvenile at the Palmyra Police Department and released the individual to a legal guardian with appearance tickets directing them to report to Wayne County Probation to answer the charges.
Authorities said they will seek an order of protection on behalf of the victim.
Police are not releasing the name or photograph of the juvenile in accordance with New York State law to protect the identity of the child victim.
