Palmesano takes key budget role

A Southern Tier lawmaker just stepped into one of Albany’s most powerful budget posts, according to Spectrum News 1. Assemblyman Phil Palmesano will serve as the top Republican on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

He replaces Ed Ra, who lawmakers elected as the new Assembly minority leader. In the role, Palmesano will help lead GOP fiscal strategy as legislators debate the governor’s proposed $260 billion state budget.

Palmesano represents the 132nd District, which includes Schuyler and Yates counties and parts of Steuben, Chemung and Seneca. He has served in the Assembly since 2011 and most recently led Republicans on the Energy Committee.
