New U.S. attorney sworn in for Upstate NY

A longtime federal prosecutor just took over as the top law enforcement official in upstate New York, according to Spectrum News. Judges appointed Donald Kinsella as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York and swore him in Wednesday.

Kinsella brings more than 50 years of criminal and civil litigation experience. He previously served in the same office from 1989 to 2002 before retiring from federal service.

His appointment follows a court ruling that found John Sarcone III was not lawfully serving as acting U.S. attorney after his interim term expired. Based in Albany, the office oversees nearly 50 assistant U.S. attorneys and dozens of other staff.
