The Ithaca YMCA will soon rebuild its aging pool and add a second, fully accessible one after securing a $6.3 million state grant, according to local officials.
The funding covers 80% of a $7.7 million project through New York’s NY SWIMS initiative. Plans call for a new zero-depth entry pool for adaptive and youth lessons, renovations to the 1984 pool, upgraded locker rooms and a new hydrotherapy spa. Leaders expect construction to start by late summer and wrap up by December 2027.
The Y taught 11,000 swim lessons last year and holds a waitlist. Officials say the expansion will boost water safety and access across Tompkins County.
