After five empty years, the future of Shoppingtown Mall still hinges on the courts, according to WSTM.
Onondaga County bought the former Sears building for $4.5 million last fall, a key step toward redevelopment. But the county still lacks control of the former Macy’s parcel, the final piece of the property. That dispute now heads to an eminent domain hearing this week in New York State Supreme Court.
The mall sits in the Town of DeWitt, though town leaders say they hold little authority as the county leads the effort. Residents want progress and favor mixed-use development, not manufacturing. A judge’s ruling could finally clear the path forward.
