Sheriff race narrows to Franklin as Major drops out

One candidate dropped out and reshaped the sheriff’s race Monday, according to The Citizen.

Chris Major ended his campaign for Cayuga County sheriff and threw his support behind Rob Franklin after the Conservative Party backed Franklin. The move followed Franklin’s earlier endorsement from county Republicans.

Major, a retired Auburn police officer, had planned to pursue both party lines but chose not to force primaries. His exit clears the field for Franklin, a detective lieutenant with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office. With no Democrat in the race, Franklin now stands as the likely next sheriff.
