Ice anglers brave deep freeze on Canandaigua Lake

Ice fishermen bundled up and headed onto a deeply frozen Canandaigua Lake as temperatures plunged Sunday, according to News10NBC.

Locals told the station the lake has iced over more than it has in years, drawing anglers eager to take advantage of rare conditions. A small group drilled in and fished through the cold, landing brown trout, lake trout, and rainbow trout.

The timing could help newcomers too. New York will waive fishing license requirements Feb. 14 and 15 during its annual free fishing days, giving residents a no-cost chance to try the sport.

For now, anglers say the cold won’t stop them on Canandaigua Lake.
