Auburn woman locks herself in bedroom during violent incident

A domestic disturbance on Cottage Street led to an arrest after officers responded to a report of a woman being held against her will in Auburn.

Officers were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. January 30 to a residence on Cottage Street, where they made contact with both the victim and the suspect, according to Auburn Police.

Police said their investigation determined the suspect, identified as the victim’s son, began arguing with his mother inside the home. As his behavior escalated, the victim locked herself in a bedroom for safety.

Investigators said the suspect punched the bedroom door repeatedly while telling the victim he was going to kill himself. Police said he eventually punched a hole through the door and injured himself during the outburst. Officers also reported that the suspect threatened to kill the victim before police arrived.

The suspect was arrested without incident and taken to the Auburn Police Department for processing. Police identified him as Travis D. C. Hoskins, born March 27, 1996, of Cottage Street in Auburn.

Because of a prior domestic-related assault conviction in 2022, Hoskins was charged with an additional felony offense, according to police. He was later transported to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.

Police said Hoskins was issued an order of protection and released following arraignment.

Hoskins faces the following charges: aggravated family offense, a Class E felony; criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor; and harassment in the second degree, a violation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
