A Thompson Health OB/GYN nurse earned statewide recognition after a patient shared how her care helped turn years of anxiety into joy.
Ashley Flicker-Luff, a registered nurse at the Geneva office of UR Medicine Thompson Health’s OB/GYN practice, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses during a January 28 presentation in Canandaigua.
The nomination came from Heidi Lyons of Penn Yan, who attended the ceremony while holding her 7-week-old baby. Lyons described her care at the Geneva practice as “a wonderful new journey.”
“My first day walking into that office for my first appointment I was nervous and anxious,” Lyons said. “I was on a journey of infertility and ready to give up but by the end of that appointment I was relieved, and Ashley was the most amazing nurse I have ever crossed paths with in my life on this earth.”
Lyons praised Flicker-Luff as “kind, smart, funny, heartwarming,” adding that she always made sure she felt comfortable.
Flicker-Luff, a Farmington resident, received a certificate, a DAISY pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY Award recipient, she also becomes eligible for scholarships, certification discounts, and medical mission grants through The DAISY Foundation.
Thompson Health presents the DAISY Award quarterly as part of a nationwide program that recognizes exceptional nurses.
