New board steps in at CNY SPCA after walkout

A leadership shakeup took hold at the CNY SPCA after a staff walkout over alleged neglect and unsafe conditions, according to CNY Central. A newly installed board now runs the animal shelter and promises swift reforms focused on care, facilities, and public service.

The board named Marcie Marshall as president, replacing Monica Williams, who resigned along with the previous board one day after the Jan. 27 walkout. Staff and volunteers had demanded change, citing serious concerns inside the shelter.

CNY SPCA leaders say they don’t expect immediate staffing changes and plan to work closely with employees and volunteers. State agriculture officials will inspect the facility soon, while the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office continues monitoring the situation.
