Tompkins health officials search for biting dog

Tompkins County health officials are trying to track down a small white dog after it bit a person outside an East Hill apartment complex, according to 14850.com. The bite happened late Wednesday morning near Fairview Manor Apartments on Dryden Road, and the injured person didn’t exchange information with the dog’s owner.

Tompkins County Environmental Health says the dog appeared unleashed and was walking with a woman dressed in black. Officials need to confirm the dog’s rabies vaccination status through a required 10-day observation period.

If they can’t locate the dog, the person who was bitten may need post-exposure rabies shots. Health officials urge residents to report bites immediately and avoid contact with unfamiliar animals.
