A boil water notice now affects part of a Finger Lakes village after officials flagged possible contamination, according to officials. The warning covers South Main Street in Rushville, stretching from Bassett Street to the village line.

Yates County Sheriff’s Office says residents and businesses should boil tap water for at least one minute before using it. Health officials warn untreated water could cause stomach illness, especially for infants, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems.

Until the notice lifts, officials say people should use boiled or state-certified bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and making ice.
