Torrey marks 175 years

A small Finger Lakes town is digging into its past—and planning for its future—as Torrey turns 175 this year, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Leaders formed a special Commemoration Committee to plan events and assemble a time capsule for 2051.

The capsule will hold town records, maps, newspapers, photos, and messages from officials. The committee also wants small items from local businesses to capture everyday life in 2026.

Torrey formed in 1851 from parts of Milo and Benton and now includes the village of Dresden. The town stretches along Seneca Lake, relies heavily on family farms, and counts about 1,300 residents across 40 square miles.
