Newfield, Enfield push pause on NYSEG power line

Local officials in Newfield and Enfield want the state to slow down an $88 million power-line overhaul that’s rattling residents, according to Tompkins Weekly. Both town boards asked regulators to delay approval of a New York State Electric & Gas upgrade until homeowner concerns get addressed.

The Finger Lakes Area Infrastructure Reliability project would replace 90-year-old wooden poles with steel monopoles up to 100 feet tall. Neighbors fear the structures will damage property values, views, and quality of life.

The towns urged the New York State Public Service Commission to require better documentation, explore alternative technologies, and consider compensation for affected landowners before granting approval.
