A major state grant will help modernize aging systems at Geneva General Hospital while cutting energy costs and emissions.
UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health has received $855,520 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to replace and upgrade HVAC infrastructure at the hospital. The funding will be distributed over three years through NYSERDA’s Commercial and Industrial Carbon Challenge program for hospitals.
Officials said the upgrades will lower energy use and operating costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the hospital’s overall carbon footprint.
“Caretaking is at the center of all we do and includes being good stewards of our planet,” said Finger Lakes Health Chief Operating Officer Lara Chatel Turbide. She said the organization has focused on sustainability for decades through projects such as living roofs, energy-efficient windows, and LEED lighting.

Turbide thanked NYSERDA for its support and credited the Finger Lakes Health facilities and foundation teams for helping move the project forward.
The grant supports efforts at Geneva General Hospital, one of two hospitals operated by UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health. The system also includes Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, along with urgent care sites, specialty practices, long-term care facilities, senior housing, childcare services, and nursing schools across the Finger Lakes region.
