Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado is rolling the dice with a progressive pick, naming Buffalo activist India Walton as his running mate, according to POLITICO. The move aims to energize the party’s left as Delgado mounts a long-shot primary challenge against Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Walton gained national attention after upsetting Buffalo’s longtime mayor in a 2021 Democratic primary before losing the general election. She brings deep ties to democratic socialist groups and the Working Families Party, support Delgado needs to counter Hochul’s commanding poll lead.
The choice also hands Republicans fresh attack lines, while Hochul prepares to unveil her own lieutenant governor pick later this week.
