Cracker Barrel walks back memo

A leaked memo sparked backlash after suggesting employees must eat at Cracker Barrel while traveling for work, according to The National News Desk. The company quickly clarified the guidance isn’t mandatory and mainly tightens alcohol reimbursement rules.

The memo, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, said pricey alcohol now needs special approval. Cracker Barrel told USA Today the dining guidance isn’t new and doesn’t restrict workers to one restaurant.

The controversy follows a rough year for the brand, including a failed logo rebrand, abandoned renovation plans, and political blowback. Despite the noise, Cracker Barrel recently joined America250 as an official partner.
