A deadly stabbing at a Monroe County hotel has a direct connection to Yates County after investigators identified the victim as a Penn Yan resident.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Daniel Fiero, 40, of Penn Yan, died after a stabbing Saturday at the Extended Stay America on Commons Way in Henrietta.
Deputies arrested a 36-year-old man at the scene and charged him with second-degree murder. Investigators said they responded to the hotel just after 2:50 p.m. for a reported dispute inside one of the rooms.
Deputies said they found the suspect inside the room with blood on him and detained him. When they continued into the room, they found Fiero dead from stab wounds.
Authorities said the incident was isolated and there was no threat to public safety. Investigators have not released details about what led up to the stabbing.
The suspect was arraigned Sunday morning and is being held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court Thursday.
