Syracuse men’s basketball (12-9, 3-5 ACC) returns to the JMA Wireless Dome today at 6 p.m. to host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-10, 2-6 ACC) in an ACC matchup.
ORANGE GAME WEEK: Syracuse football returns home to host Louisville Saturday night (preview) This game will also feature a halftime ceremony honoring the late Lawrence Moten, Syracuse’s all-time leading scorer, who amassed 2,334 points from 1991–95 and had his No. 21 jersey retired in 2018.
On the court, the Orange are led by sophomore Donnie Freeman, who is averaging 19.2 points and 7.4 rebounds this season. Freeman has been especially productive in conference play, scoring in double figures in every appearance and averaging 19.9 points against ACC opponents. He is coming off a 24-point, 10-rebound performance at NC State, his second double-double of the year.
Syracuse has leaned heavily on perimeter shooting in league play, connecting on 37.5 percent from 3-point range, the third-best mark in the ACC. Tyler Betsey and Nate Kingz pace the effort, while defensively the Orange have limited ACC foes to 30.4 percent from deep. Syracuse allows 69.9 points per game and ranks second nationally in blocks per contest (7.1), anchored by senior William Kyle III, who averages 2.71 blocks per game.
Notre Dame enters after a double-overtime loss to Virginia and has dropped six of its last seven. Freshman Jalen Haralson leads the Irish at 15.0 points per game, while Braeden Shrewsberry tops the ACC in 3-point percentage.
Syracuse leads the all-time series 35-24 and has won four of the last five meetings, including a 77-69 victory last season.
