Show up at airport security without a REAL ID and it could cost you extra starting Saturday, according to WSYR. The Transportation Security Administration says travelers without compliant ID will face a new $45 fee beginning Feb. 1.
The charge covers TSA’s new ConfirmID process, which lets passengers verify their identity if they forget proper ID. Travelers must provide personal details, wait up to 30 minutes, and prepare for extra screening and delays.
The REAL ID rule has been in effect since May 2025, but officials say too many people still arrive unprepared. TSA urges travelers to bring a REAL ID, passport, or other approved identification to avoid fees or missed flights.
