Valentine’s Day deadline for party changes

Livingston County voters have until Valentine’s Day to change their party enrollment ahead of this year’s primary election.

The Livingston County Board of Elections says Saturday, Feb. 14, is the deadline for enrollment changes to take effect for the June 23 primary .

New York uses closed primaries, meaning voters must be enrolled in a political party to vote in that party’s primary election.

Election officials stress that enrollment changes must be received by the Board of Elections by Feb. 14 to count for the June primary. Any changes submitted after that date will not take effect until after the primary election.

To help last-minute voters, the Board of Elections office at 6 Court Street in Geneseo will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 14.

Voters can change their enrollment online through the state Board of Elections portal until 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 14. Those using the DMV’s MyDMV system must submit changes by 1:59 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Paper forms can also be submitted in person or by mail, but officials warn mailed forms must still arrive by the deadline. The board recommends in-person delivery to avoid delays.

Voters unsure of their current enrollment status can look it up through the state’s voter registration website.
