Police arrested a Seneca Falls man after a monthlong investigation into allegations of sexual and physical abuse involving multiple children.
Steven Marquart, 46, was taken into custody around 11:56 a.m. on Jan. 29 by the Seneca Falls Police Criminal Investigation Division.
Police say the investigation began earlier in January after they and Seneca County Child Protective Services received a report alleging ongoing inappropriate sexual and physical contact involving several children under 17.
Authorities say the allegations span several months and include at least one incident in mid-2023 in which a child suffered physical assault and injury.
Police and CPS coordinated early in the investigation to ensure the safety of the children while detectives continued their work.
At the conclusion of the investigation, detectives charged Marquart with second-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree course of conduct against a child, criminal obstruction of breathing, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police transported Marquart to the Seneca County Correctional Facility, where he was held to await arraignment in CAP Court.
