Newark man arrested after domestic incident

Deputies arrested a Village of Newark man after a domestic incident that investigators say turned physical in the presence of a child.

Zackery Powell, 38, of Linden Avenue, faces charges of third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office .


The incident happened around 8:36 p.m. in the Village of Newark.

Deputies say Powell became physical with another person during a domestic altercation, causing injury. Investigators say a small child was present at the time.

Authorities transported Powell to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and then to the Wayne County Jail.

He was held to await CAP arraignment scheduled for the morning of Jan. 29.
