Freezing temperatures are cutting into Williamson’s water supply as ice builds up in the town’s Lake Ontario intake, according to the Town of Williamson. Crews say frazil ice has narrowed the intake pipe, reducing how much water the system can pull.
The intake still runs, but the slowdown makes it harder to meet normal demand. The town has started drawing water from connected systems and asked major users to cut back. Officials warn voluntary conservation could become mandatory if usage stays high.
Residents can help by skipping car washes, fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and running full loads only. With cold weather ahead, officials expect the problem to last a week or longer.
