A fake speed ticket scam is hitting phones in Tompkins and Cortland counties, prompting warnings from local law enforcement, according to WENY News.
The scam texts claim a speed camera caught you and demand immediate payment via a bogus link. Police say don’t click — real traffic violations are always mailed, not texted.
Officials urge anyone who gets the message to delete it and report it as spam.
