Auburn’s Lake Avenue bridge overhaul will now cost over $10 million — more than twice the original estimate, according to The Citizen.
Rising inflation and hidden structural damage drove up the price, which was pegged at $4.9 million when the state awarded a grant in 2021. A closer inspection revealed major steel deterioration, forcing the city to expand the project scope.
To cover the gap, Auburn will use $1.7 million in state funds and issue nearly $4 million in bonds. Construction begins in May and will take two years.
