Clear signs, flexible schedules, and easier access could soon be easier to spot across Tompkins County, according to The Tompkins Weekly.
The Tompkins County Office for the Aging rolled out a new Age Friendly Business Certification to recognize organizations that make their spaces and workplaces welcoming for people of all ages. The program looks at customer amenities like accessible restrooms and readable signage, along with employee practices such as flexible scheduling and retaining older workers.
Early participants include local galleries, libraries, nonprofits, and retailers. Certified businesses receive public recognition, signage, and inclusion on a county list, with a public map planned to help residents find age-friendly spaces.
