Why Auburn home values jump

Early numbers from Auburn’s 2026 property reassessment are rattling homeowners, according to The Citizen. Some residents report projected value hikes of 50% or more as the city resets assessments to match today’s housing market.

City Assessor Jeanne Hering says the four-year reassessment aims to fairly spread the tax burden, not spike tax bills. Higher values citywide would lower the tax rate per $1,000, meaning many owners could see little or no change in what they pay.

Officials stress market growth, not renovations, drives the increases. Property owners can contact the assessor’s office to review or question their assessments.
