A growing nurses union just widened its reach in Ithaca, according to The Ithaca Voice. Nurses at two Cayuga Health–affiliated clinics voted to join the newly formed Cayuga United–CWA union alongside hospital nurses.
Workers at Cayuga Cancer Center and Cayuga Health Surgicare cited stagnant wages and lost benefits after hospital nurses overwhelmingly unionized earlier this month. The clinics’ nurses skipped an election after management voluntarily recognized the union.
The expanded bargaining unit now represents more than 330 nurses across Cayuga Medical Center and the two clinics, setting the stage for contract talks with the healthcare system.
